Why Weddings?
I have dabbled in quite a few things before I landed in the wedding world. Before I thought of coordinating as a realistic career path I had set forth on a journey of doing dream jobs. As a young girl in the early 2000’s I loved the TLC classic tv show ‘Say Yes to The Dress’. The drama, the stories, the dresses! I knew I wanted to work in bridal sales, I wanted to have the crazy stories, and boy I got them! I worked at an amazing bridal boutique in San Diego as a Bridal stylist. I loved helping brides find a dress that they felt both the most themselves in yet also the most beautiful in. It was what I dreamed of, but came with one very big sore spot.
When a bride comes in to buy a dress it is typically 7-12 months out from their actual wedding. It takes a dress on average 6 months to arrive once ordered. So when I first would meet a bride it typically was in the beginning of their wedding planning, they are excited and having fun with the process, so hopeful! Well fast forward 6 months when they arrive to pick up their gown, and that hope and joy seemed to always be gone. In its place exhaustion. These women would come in so tired and drained from the stress of wedding planning that they seemed almost resentful of the experience. I would often hear brides complain and mention how they wished that they had just eloped. And there was nothing I could do to help.
I had so many suggestions and tips that I wanted to give these brides to help them enjoy planning their weddings, but that wasn’t my job. But finally I couldn’t take it, I wanted to help with more than just their dresses, I wanted to plan their weddings with them. So off I went, on to my next dream job, wedding coordinating.
